The same data the office sees

Sound familiar?

Most schools run on four systems that don’t talk to each other

  • Attendance in a register, fees in a ledger, results in a spreadsheet someone emails round every term.
  • A parent calls the office because the fee reminder or the exam notice never reached them.
  • Someone spends the end of every month matching receipts to payments by hand.
  • Payroll worked out by hand from a fingerprint machine’s printout.

Akshara is one system that already talks to itself: the roll call reaches the parent’s phone, the fee paid online reaches the ledger and the receipt, and the fingerprint at the gate reaches the payslip. Nothing is typed twice.

One school day

Thursday, 29 Ashwin 2083 — a day on Akshara

An ordinary day at a school that runs on Akshara, from the first bus to bedtime reading. Every step happens in one system — open any of them to see how it works.

  1. ParentsThe bus is six minutes awayParents watch the school bus on the app as it nears their stop, instead of waiting at the corner.
  2. TeachersPunched in at the gateStaff punch in on the fingerprint device, and Akshara reads it by itself — attendance that payroll can trust.
  3. Class teacherRoll call, from the phoneEveryone starts as present; a few taps later Class 5 A is done, and each family can see it.
  4. Class 5An online class testQuestions drawn at random for each student — and most of it marked before the bell.
  5. A parentKartik’s fees, paid from the phonePaid online in the app; the receipt is ready at once, and the payment is already in the school’s books.
  6. Front deskTwo sisters leave earlyTheir grandmother collects them on one gate pass — approved, and recorded as they go out.
  7. A teacherA purple merit cardGiven from the phone; the student’s house gains its points at once, and the family sees why.
  8. The officeA notice to Class 5’s parentsBy email, the app’s bell and a push to their phones — with a record of whom it reached.
  9. AccountsThe day’s books, already keptEvery payment, receipt and expense has posted to the ledger; the trial balance is already up to date.
  10. At homeReading a library bookA child reads Muna Madan in the app, carrying on from yesterday’s page.

Built for Nepal

Made for how schools in Nepal actually run

Not foreign software with a rupee sign added: Bikram Sambat dates, terminal exams and GPA, Nepal’s payroll year and Nepali text were there from the first day.

Bikram Sambat, throughout

Dates, months, the calendar, invoices, attendance and payroll in BS — with the month names your school uses.

Terminal exams and GPA

Unit tests, terminals and the final, added up the school’s way — with letter grades and GPA on its own scale.

Fees paid online

Parents pay from the app or the website with the e-wallets and bank accounts the school accepts.

Nepali, printed properly

Devanagari on report cards, receipts and letters — even on thermal receipt printers.

Questions

What schools ask us first

All the questions

Is Akshara for schools only, or for colleges too?

Both. Schools run classes and sections through the academic year; colleges add faculties, programs and terms or semesters. Each school switches on only the parts it uses, so nobody wades through screens meant for someone else.

Can we keep our data on our own server?

Yes. Akshara runs in our cloud, where we host and look after it for you, or on your school’s own server. Either way, each school has a database of its own.

Does it work in Bikram Sambat?

Yes. Dates, months, the academic calendar, invoices, attendance and payroll all run in Bikram Sambat, with the month names your school uses. A school that keeps AD dates can use AD instead.

Does it handle terminal exams and GPA?

Yes. Name your exams the way you run them — unit tests, first and second terminals, the final — and say how they add up. Marks become letter grades and GPA on your school’s own scale, and report cards print in your design, on your letterhead.

How do parents pay fees online?

From the parents’ pages on the website or in the Akshara app, with the e-wallets and bank accounts your school accepts. Each payment is checked with the payment gateway until it settles; then the invoice is marked paid and the receipt is ready.
